Fees
Payment may be made by cash or cheque.
Fees for psychological assessments depend on the age of the child or adolescent, the nature of the presenting questions or concerns, and the complexity of the case. For school-age children, assessment fees typically range from $1800 to $2000. Fees and a payment plan will be established prior to the start of the assessment.
Fees for therapy or consultation are billed at $160 per 50-minute session, which is the rate currently recommended by the BC Psychological Association.
Private psychological services are not covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP), but they are tax deductible as a health expense. In some cases, families pay directly for services.
There are several other sources of potential funding, including:
- Many extended health care plans provide reimbursement for psychological services.
- The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) may cover psychological services for individuals seeking services due to a motor vehicle accident.
- The First Nations Non-Insured Health Benefits Program may provide funding for therapy to First Nations people meeting certain criteria.
- The Crime Victim Assistance Program may cover the cost of therapy for victims of crime, family members of crime victims, and (in some cases) witnesses to crime.
- WorkSafeBC may pay for psychological services related to a workplace injury, workplace stress, or other work-related incident.
